Your data in Bao Bao

This is an early companion prototype. Here is what the hosted app currently stores.

Account and settings

Your name, email, protected password credentials and sign-in sessions are managed by Better Auth with Convex. Convex also stores the companion settings and facts you explicitly save. Each approved account can only access its own settings. Access is restricted to a guest list configured by the project owner.

Memory is your choice

Facts are never inferred or saved automatically. You can inspect, edit and erase them in Memory. Erasing a fact removes it from the active account record. Infrastructure backups may retain earlier versions for the provider’s retention period.

Microphone and conversations

When you hold the microphone button, this website captures up to 30 seconds of audio and sends it to a private model service on Modal to transcribe and answer. Typed messages, recent conversation context and your saved companion settings are also sent to that service. Bao Bao does not save hosted recordings or conversation transcripts to your account; the visible conversation stays in this browser session until you reset or leave it. Provider operational logs and retention policies still apply. The separate local Mac Voice Lab has its own recording controls and storage.

Hosting

Vercel hosts the website, Convex hosts accounts and settings, and Modal runs the voice models. Convex stores daily usage counts to enforce conversation limits. These providers process the network requests needed to operate the service. Bao Bao uses its own project and does not share its account data with other applications. We have not added advertising trackers or third-party analytics.

Prototype limitations

Email verification, email-based password recovery, physical robot pairing and automated account deletion are not available yet. Don’t store sensitive information in this prototype.
